So fall came and I'm living in a dorm room with two other girls. We'll call one Journalist, and the other Diligent Student. I need some help with Journalist.
I'm not the best housemate admittedly, but I'm by far not the worst. I clean up after myself, take out the trash fine, you know, the polite stuff. Both of my roommates are fairly polite as well and while we're awake we get along well enough.
However, in the morning I get up about 9 on Monday and Tuesdays, and about 7 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fridays I don't have class so it doesn't matter.
Diligent Student wakes up about 7-8 every morning, and Journalist gets up about 9-10 from what I can tell. Normally this isn't much of an issue, but Journalist is a VERY VERY light sleeper, and I'm not sure what to do.
When I leave the room and come back from brushing my teeth, simply the sound of the door closing is enough to wake her up, no matter how gently I try to close it. If that doesn't then the door of my cabinets opening and closing will, again I do really try to close them as gently as possible. If that doesn't then packing my bag will, despite the fact the only thing I do is unplug my laptop to put it in its sleeve and in my bag and zip my bag.
This morning none of that woke her up.
Instead the sound of me brushing my hair did.
I don't brush my hair loudly, I swear I do not curse or moan when I do, I do not talk when I do, I do not slam my hairbrush down on the table. I brush my hair like a normal person, I swear I do.
I don't know what to do about this, she's been complaining almost every morning, and while I realize that being woken up earlier than usual is annoying, it's not like she's never woken me and my other roommate up with her morning routine. And it's not just me either, my other roommate has gotten a similar talk, though I don't think her brushing her hair was particularly loud.
Is there anything I can do about this? She's not rude, but her waking up all the time is something I really try hard not to do, but somehow seems inevitable. I can't blame her really, because it's not really her fault, but I don't know what to do. I've already done packing my bag in the morning and leaving my outfit out for the next day so I don't have to open too many doors in the morning and she still wants me to be more quiet. If I had ninja skills then maybe I could, but I'm trying as hard as I can.
As much as I feel for her, well, I kind of don't because she also sleeps first and wakes up last, I'm getting frustrated with her light-sleeperness.
Any advice is much appreciated, on how to make doors close quietly or how I can tell her, yes I'm trying but apparently you don't understand that because the sound of my brushing my hair is enough to wake you up, what am I going to do?
Sorry, I realize I probably sound really bitchy and possible like a very loud person, but I really really try not to wake her up, but she complains almost everyday I do and I'm already tried everything I could think of.
